Home Sweet Home

There's no place like home... Home is where the heart is... Home Sweet Home... or any other catch phrase that you may be familiar with about home seems to be what Eastern Illinois teams are yearning for as the spring seasons get underway.

Currently the Panther baseball and softball teams have taken full advantage of playing on their home turf to open the 2010 slate. The baseball team has only played one game at home to date but it accounts for a win over Chicago State. EIU will be back in action at Coaches Stadium this weeekend (April 2-3) for what they hope will be more home cooking.

The EIU softball team has been on a tear of their own. After dropping several games to start spring break the Panthers picked up two big wins to open the OVC season on the road at Jacksonville State. That momentum carried over to two home wins over IUPUI in the home openers followed by a weekend sweep of Tennessee Tech. EIU is now 7-0 in OVC action after taking a pair of games from Southeast Missouri on Wednesday.

Heading into their final home meet of the season even EIU track has benefitted from opening the season at home. The Panthers won all four head-to-head meets on the women's side last weekend while the men posted a 3-1 mark. EIU is hosting the Big Blue Classic this weekend at O'Brien Field.

So Panther fans leave your own homes this Easter weekend and come out and support EIU while hopefully enjoying some of this early Spring weather.

If you do decide to stay at home - take the chance to bid on some EIU auction items or log on to EIU baseball player Richie Derbak's online blog on Ping Baseball!
