Know Your Opponent - Jacksonville State

Our weekly look at the know your opponent segment as the Panthers prep to host No. 4 ranked Jacksonville State on Saturday at O'Brien Field. It will be Hall of Fame weekend for the Panthers with the induction of five former athletes and one friend of athletics.

Before we get to that congrats to EIU men's soccer on picking up a third straight victory with a 1-0 win over IUPUI. Today's match was a non-conference meeting between two schools that will be Summit League rivals starting next season. EIU is now 3-3 on the season.

Now for a couple of quick facts about this week's opponent.

1.) Jacksonville State's mascot is the Gamecock... JSU joins the University of South Carolina as the only two school's with Gamecocks as a mascot.

2.) Country music group Alabama lead singer Randy Owen went to school at JSU. My personal favorite Alabama song is "Dixieland Delight".

3.) 1995 Miss America Heather Whitestone went to school at JSU... She was the first Miss America selection who was deaf.

4.) JSU recently expanded its football stadium to seat 24,000 fans. The stadium is now the 12th largest on campus FCS stadium. Georgia State and Tennessee State lead the list but both play at NFL stadiums, the next school on the list is Yale which plays in the historic Yale Bowl with a capacity of 64,446.

5.) In the Fall semester of 2011, JSU will begin to offer their first doctoral degree, Doctor of Science in Emergency Management.
