Wind was the story of the day for the EIU football team as they traveled the 5 hour trip west to Iowa City for Saturday's opener at No. 9 Iowa. After strong thunderstorms hit the area last night some remaining winds were evident on Friday.
The team arrived and did a quick walk through of Kinnick Stadium including a visit to the "Pink Locker Room". It was a nice scene, something quite different than tomorrow will be with 70,585 rocking the place.
EIU then hit the hotel while others in the traveling group hit the PED Mall (as it is called locally) which is a strip of bars and restaurants. We had dinner at Shorts Burger and Shine - I recommend the No. 3 burger (bacon, cheddar and BBQ sauce).
After the Panther Club social many of the people who made the trip over hit a few establishments with Brothers, Union Bar and Vito's a few of the stops - Vito's became a quick EIU stomping group with the DJ spinning the best of the 80's for the older crowd.
Kick off will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Big Ten Network is doing part of their pregame show at Kinnick Stadium so we will see if we can sneak Billy in for a TV cameo.
In other good EIU news - Volleyball opened the Kate Price era with two Friday wins at the Harvard Invite. Women's soccer picked up a draw at UW Green Bay while men's soccer started on the losing side with a tough loss at Kentucky.
