About 500 fans braved the cold to venture out of the ice storm on Thursday night to watch the Eastern Illinois women's basketball team easily handle the SIU Edwardsville sweeping the season series from the Cougars.
Thanks to all the fans who were probably a little Stir Crazy and made it a nice night at Lantz.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Jordyne Crunk was our player of the game as she scored a career high 16 points. Crunk knocked down 12 of 12 from the free throw line to become the 11th EIU women's player to be perfect from the charity stripe on 10 or more attempts in a game.
WHAT WE LEARNED
1.) EIU learned from its mistakes in the first match-up with SIUE as they did not let the Cougars make a second half comeback. EIU put the hammer down to win 73-54.
2.) Ta'Kenya Nixon picked up her fourth double-double of the year with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Nixon passed the 800 point mark for her career and may make an outside run at the 1,000 point mark by the end of the year.
3.) EIU shot lights out on Thursday night as they hit for better than 50 percent from the floor for the third time this season. EIU leads the OVC in field goal percentage at 40.3.
EIU ends its four game home stand on Saturday at 4 p.m. with a game against Southeast Missouri. EIU fell a half game behind Austin Peay in the OVC race for fourth place due to the Lady Govs winning on Thursday against UT Martin. EIU was idle in OVC action.
EIU men's basketball will host SEMO at 6 p.m. on Saturday in a pivotal OVC contest. EIU is seventh in the OVC at 4-7 while SEMO is 8th at 4-8. A win by EIU would essentially give them a one game lead over SEMO for the year with the same schedule for both teams still ahead.
EIU men's and women's swimming will host Saint Louis for Senior Day on Saturday at Padovan Pool at 11:30 a.m. If you have not had a chance to see a meet this year, then head out of the house and see the Panthers in action.
